Why Mormons Dedicate Their Places of Worship
2 June 2010

Worship services, Sunday School classes and other activities that will take place in the new Manurewa Stake Centre on Redoubt Road, Manukau, should help people draw closer to God, according to Elder Tad R. Callister, Pacific Area President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Speaking to around 500 members and guests at Sunday night’s dedication service, he said: "We have come to dedicate this beautiful and sacred building.  To dedicate means to consecrate or set apart.

"Accordingly, we will consecrate and dedicate this building to God and for his work of bringing to pass the eternal life of man.  That means that every activity, every talk, every lesson and every meeting within these walls must be more than entertaining, more than motivational, more than just good - it must be inspiring - it must be a stepping stone in helping us achieve eternal life."

Elder Callister added: “The real dedication that should take place this night will not be the building, but the dedication of our lives to these principles; then and only then will this building fulfil the purpose for which it was constructed.”
